Police seized cocaine with a value of more than R300 million in Knysna in December in what is hoped could be a major breakthrough in cracking drug smuggling syndicates.
However, the Addiction Action Campaign has said it is not enough to stymie drug lords’ operations.
AAC CEO and founder Warren Whitfield said South Africa’s disbanded narcotics bureau should be introduced.
“Even with these drug busts that happen periodically, the fact is South Africa still does not have a national drug enforcement agency,” Whitfield said.
