Deon Du Plessis founded the Daily Sun newspaper. Du Plessis started his career as an Argus Africa journalist,before becoming the editor of the Pretoria News. Later, as managing director of Gauteng newspapers at Independent Newspapers, he came up with the idea of the Daily Sun. He then left Independent and joined Media24, who helped fund the newspaper with him. He is also credited with coming up with the idea for the newspaper the Sunday Sun.
