Dennis Brutus was a South African activist, educator, journalist and poet. He was a Professor at North-western University (English)in the United States and an Organizer of the Malmesbury Convention. Imn 1961 he was banned and in 1963 he was arrested for violating his banning orders. He was imprisoned on Robben Island for 18 months.
