He began to sing in bars in his home town and in church, and soon joined the Love Brothers. He began by playing mbaqanga. They were together for 2 years. In early 1980s decided to switch to reggae.

Formed his first band, 'The Sky Way Band' while still at school.

Rastas Never Die, recorded in 1986, was banned by S.A. censors.

Was the first black artist in S.A. to be played on a white radio station.

Toured the world promoting his next best selling album, Prisoner.

Touring band was called The Slaves.

Was the first S.A. artist to sign with Motown Records.

Was ranked in over 20 national and international awards for his music and videos.

Featured in the film Getting Lucky and in the feature film Voice in the Dark.

Recorded a duet with Sinead O'Connor over the internet.

Was made an honorary citizen of Dallas, Texas on 27 May 2007.

Lucky did not drink or smoke cigarettes or marijuana despite the reputation most Rastafarians bear.

Was shot during a hijacking in Rosettenville, Johannesburg on Thursday 18 October 2007.

Is survived by his wife and seven children.
