Deceased 11-03-2008 in Kingsbury Hospital, Cape Town

Phyllis Spira was a South African ballerina. She is known for being the only South African dancer to carry the title of Prima Ballerina Assoluta. Her dance career ended in 1988 after an injury on the opening night of Giselle. Spira died at the age of 64 in 2008 after complications of vascular surgery.
