Mathews Phosa

Mathews Nakedi Phosa

Treasurer General of the African National Congress


Born 01-09-1952 in Mpumalanga South Africa

Mathews Phosa is a South African attorney and politician and was also an anti-apartheid activist. He is a former premier of Mpumalanga as well as a former member of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC). During the recent Conference of the ANC (the 52nd National Conference) held in Polokwane in the Limpopo Province in 2009, Phosa was elected to the post of Treasurer General for the Organisation. Mathews published a volume of poetry called Deur die oog van 'n naald (Through the eye of a needle) in 1999.
