Cyril Ramaphosa is a South African lawyer, trade union leader, activist, politician and businessman. He started his involvement in politics as a student (part of South African Students Organisation (SASO) and went on to be a legal advisor for the National Council of Trade Unions (NCTU) after obtaining his law degree. He was one of the freedom fighters who received Nelson Mandela after his release from prison in 1990. He was secretary-general of the African National Congress (ANC) and chairman of the Constitutional Assembly from 1991 until 13 April 1996, when he officially resigned from parliament. He was elected to be a part of the ANC National Executive Committee in 2007. He is now a well-known figure in business. He is the Non-Executive Director of Lonmin, a UK-based resources group (2010).
