Pieter Van Dalen

.After a successful career in the business world as Managing Director of his own electronics company for 17 years, and following nearly two decades of serving the community as a dedicated Fire Brigade and SAPS reservist, Pieter decided to turn his indomitable spirit and exceptional management, organisational and people skills, to the political arena.


He began his political career in 2005, successfully standing as a DA candidate for Ward 14 in Kuils River. Through his tireless and dedicated proactive work (physically visiting 7 000 houses), Pieter helped the DA capture this ward from the ANC with a significant majority. Kuils River is currently the fifth largest branch in the Metro.

Between 2006 and 2007, Pieter was elected to posts as; DA Councillor for Ward 14 Kuils River, Whip in Subcouncil 21 Oostenberg, Vice-Chairperson of the Oostenberg South constituency and delegate to the National and Provincial Congresses in Johannesburg and Mossel Bay

In 2007, Pieter created and served as Chairman of the Copper Theft Unit (Copperheads) with a staff of 19 officials and was also elected Chairperson of the Investment Committee of the Cape Municipal Workers' Pension Fund, a post to which he was re-elected in 2008.

Pieter has actively served in a civic capacity striving to improve the community.

He created three ratepayers' associations as well as the highly successful non-profit "Rainbow community organization".

He also personally funded the Happy Valley soup kitchen, and further served as a member of the Civil Oversight Committee for the Cape Town Metro Police from 2006, while he remains a dedicated member of the SAPS - CPF and Sector policing in Kuils River- a commitment he has fulfilled for the past six years.

Pieter also serves as a member on several portfolio committees, including those dealing with; Utilities, Rules, Language, Civil Oversight, Coastal Waters Monitoring, and the Cable Theft Task Team.

It remains Pieter's passion to deliver meaningful inputs, and to offer support and knowledge using his human relations skills and insight, to motivate others.

He is committed to exposing corruption and wasteful expenditure wherever it rears its ugly head, particularly in state organs, and is a media friendly peoples person.

Pieter is the DA Deputy Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises.
