Patti Duncan is the Shadow Deputy Minister of Women, Youth, Children and People with Disabilities for the Democratic Alliance. In 1987 she was the Chairperson of the Local Management Committee of the Langebaan Municipality. During that period she also served as Chairperson of the School Board, the Langebaan Women's Club and was the Vice Chairperson of the Tourism Board of the Western Cape. She became a Councilor of the Langebaan Municipality during the period 1991 to 1993. In 1999 she left the ANC and joined the DP. Thereafter in 2000, as a founder member of the Democratic Alliance, she became Councilor in the Saldanha Bay Municipality. In 2001 she became the Deputy Mayor of the West Coast District Municipality. From 2004 until 2009 she was a Democratic Alliance member of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature and served as member and spokesperson on the Social Development and Economic Development Standing Committees. She was also member and Deputy Spokesperson on Community Safety, Transport and Public Works as well as Health.
