Martin Brown

CEO, Radical Holdings (Pty) Ltd.

Radical Holdings (Pty) Ltd t/a Radical Mobility is a South African company that designs, manufactures and markets power wheelchairs, which maximize mobility and comfort for disabled people that still have a zest for life.

Martin Brown, founder and CEO of Radical Mobility is a C3/6 quadriplegic, confined to a wheelchair since 1998. His frustration in trying to find a electric wheelchair that catered for his needs led directly to the formation of Radical Holdings (Pty) Ltd.

Martin demanded manoeuvrability indoors but also the ability to drive on surfaces like beach sand. He needed comfort and support, and the ability to surmount obstacles and slopes and didn’t want his power wheelchair to look like hospital equipment.

Martin Brown has a competitive advantage that none of his rivals can beat: he is paralysed from the neck down.

In Brown’s eyes, he is not disabled; he is ahead of the competition.

“If two people tried to sell you a wheelchair and I was one of them, who would you buy it from?”

This somewhat simple statement is the cornerstone of a business that is quickly blossoming into an international operation.

With partner Pieter Nell by his side, Brown has taken Radical Holdings from a concept created by necessity, to an operation that has seemingly no limits.

Martin Brown Wheelchair Fund

President, 2007 - present

Founder and President of the Martin Brown Wheelchair Fund, a wheelchair fund assists the physically disabled in obtaining a electric wheelchair. Many people think that a wheelchair is just a wheelchair and if you never had one then any wheelchair will be fine ... that is a backwards train of thought! A wheelchair is supposed to provide independents so if you are still dependent on somebody to push you around then you are just not independent but now somebody else has also lost there independance.
