Portfolio

Journal of Economic & Management Sceinces - University of Pretoria
2004

Upon completing his Master of Commerce degree (MCom) at the Unisa School of Management, Marlon published work on the ability of privatised IT organisations to compete effectively against well-established competitors in South Africa's dynamic IT industry. Marlon's intention when doing his MCom was to prove that Arivia's viability as an organisation was flawed if it did not prioritise its ability to compete effectively as a business. The company was formed from the merger of paratstatal IT organisations and hence operated with a parastatal mindset instead of transitioning to a business-driven paradigm. Needless to say, the prediction proved to be correct and Arivia was packaged for sale in 2009 by the government and was bought over by T-Systems.
