Lynne Du Toit
Chief Executive Officer, Juta and Company
Lynne du Toit is CEO of Juta and Company, South Africa’s oldest publishing house and specialist academic and education retailer and the leading provider of legal and regulatory information and local student textbooks. Appointed in June 2006, under her watch Juta has enjoyed sustained double digit growth in turnover and operating profit focusing on the core businesses while strategically diversifying into training and learning and information solutions.
Having majored in English and Archaeology at UCT followed by a post-graduate HDE, Lynne entered the teaching profession. After eight years working aboraod she became drawn to the publishing industry and was appointed as Marketing Manager at Oxford University Press Southern Africa at the height of the OBE curriculum implementation. She was later appointed to the position of Marketing Director and Director for Trade sales. Having experienced the full scope from education to academic to trade publishing, the Walt Disney Company offered Lynne the opportunity to relocate to London as Director of their publishing business for the UK and other English language territories. Three years later she was relocated to Paris to assume a role of Global Director for Disney Publishing Worldwide which included diversification into English Language teaching in Asia.
On returning to South Africa as CEO at Juta, Lynne embarked on an Executive MBA at UCT’s Graduate School of Business in an effort to consolidate her business management experience. The EMBA’s emphasis on Systems Thinking has become pivotal to her thinking and approach to problem solving. She graduated Cum Laude in June 2010 and was awarded a gold medal for outstanding achievement.
Lynne is married to Clive and between them they have four children ranging from 5 to 22 years old.
