Luthando Bara

Luthando Bara has distinguished himself a marketing and communications practitioner of repute, dominating the provincial and national press headlines as the University of Fort Hare spokesperson from 2001 until 2008.
He is the Group Executive Chairman of the Vula Group, Iphulo Media Group (IMG), Managing Editor and Shareholder of the Eastern Cape Today, the biggest free circulation weekly newspaper in the Eastern Cape.
He holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Communications, a Postgraduate Diploma in Telecommunications Technology and Information Policy and an array of qualifications in computer mediated communications and media liaison. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Mass Media.
He served in the Council of the University, he was a Board member of UNITECH and he serves in the Board of the Forte’ Community Radio station

Luthando Bara has worked extensively in the communications field. His role in higher education communications being the most celebrated.
A media strategist and a prolific writer, Bara has written for most national magazines including in-flight magazines, corporate and professional publications.
He played a pivotal role in the now talked about turnaround of the University of Fort Hare under the sterling leadership of Professor Derrick Swartz whom he appointed his media & Communications advisor during his term at the University.
He holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Communication degree. His student days were marked by activism in media which included being the Editor of the University’s muck raking student magazine (COMTALK) in the 90ʼs.
He later enrolled for post graduate studies in telecommunications technology and Information policy following a bursary award by the Department of Communication (DOC) On completion of this programme in 1999 he opened his own business in
communications (New Vision Communications) which he later left to take up a lecturing position at Fort Hare. He also holds an MDP from the University of Stellenbosch. In 2002 he enrolled for a Masters in Applied Communication degree (Yet to be
completed).
He has displayed in-depth understanding of the field and has taken media advisory positions for a number of leaders in the Eastern Cape and nationally.
He has served in a number of national Boards which include UNITECH, ETDP SETA and the University of Fort Hare Council to mention a few. These have helped
him understand the communication gaps prevalent in most organisations and has developed multi faceted solutions to these through his widely practiced brand, influence, change and perception management model.
In 2010 he was appointed Administrator for two Trusts in the Eastern Cape i.e. Amatola Trust and Mbizana Development Trust.
