National Orders 2011

President Zuma awarded National Orders to deserving individuals at the National Orders Awards ceremony held on Freedom Day, 27 April 2011.
 
Pieter Steyn
Pieter Streicher Steyn is Senior Director of Research for the Division of Research Development at Stellenbosch University. He is Professor of Chemistry at Stellenbosch University and member of the Royal Society of South Africa(RSSA). He is a Fellow of CSIR.

Daniel Jordaan
Danny Jordaan is a South African sports administrator as well as a former lecturer, politician and anti-apartheid activist. He played a leading role in the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa, as CEO of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa. Jordaan has served on the marketing and television board of FIFA since 1998. He has also served FIFA as a General Co-ordinator for the Youth World Cup, 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan.

Ray Phiri
Ray Phiri is the Honorary Head and Guitarist at Ray Phiri Arts Institute in Mpumalanga. He is the Founder and Guitarist of The Cannibals. Eight out of nine of Stimela's albums was produced with Stimela. Ray produced gold and platinum-winning albums such as Fire, Passion and Ecstacy, Look, Listen and Decide and People Don.

Irvin Khoza
Irvin Khoza was the Chairman of 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee from 2004 to 2010. He is the Chairman of Orlando Pirates Football Club and Chairman of the South African Premier Soccer League. Prior to this Khoza was the Vice President of the South African Football Association.

Busi Mhlongo
Performer: her song 'We Baba Omncane' was chosen by the Adidas for global advertising campaign in 2001 and for the EMIS Football World Cup. She performed with many legends. She is drawing on various traditional South African styles as well as more urban styles, with several tracks being remixed for the dancefloor. The first South African music Benefit concert was held to pay for her medical bills, she has been diagnosed with cancer and is at the moment recovering from an operation. She passed away on 15 June 2010 after a long battle with cancer.

Lionel Bernstein was a South African Architect and member of the Labour League of Youth.

Marlene Van Niekerk
Marlene Van Niekerk is a South African writer. Her publications include the short-story collection, The Woman Who Forgot Her Spyglass, the novella, Memorandum, and the novels, Triomf and Agaat. Her novels Triomf and Agaat have both been translated into English. In 1979, she moved to Germany to join theatres in Stuttgart and Mainz as an apprentice for directing. From 1980 to 1985 she continuted her studies of philosophy in Holland and obtained her PhD.

Tsietsi Mashinini
Tsietsi was the primary student leader of the Soweto Uprising that began in Soweto and spread across South Africa in June, 1976. He passed away in 1990 Conakry,Guinea. His grave bears the epitaph "Black Power."
