Kamal Singh

Born in pmb South Africa

Kamal Singh is a South African development activist who has become known internationally for his work on participatory methodologies. Kamal has lived and/or worked in over 25 countries. He was founder member with Prof Robert Chambers of the Participation Group at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. He has been CEO of national and international NGOs, and consultant to the EU, World Bank, Governments (Jamaica, Eritrea, South Africa, Botswana), INGOs (OXFAM, ActionAid, CARE International). Currently he is CEO of Khanya-African Institute for Community driven Development. He is fluent in French and proficient in advanced IT applications (database-driven websites, DTP, video and multimedia).

Managed a programme of developmental support to emerging networks of participatory research practitioners in Government, NGOs, INGOs, and Research Institutes, in 100 countries mainly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. My work was focused on South-South capacity building and entailed travel, training in research methodology, networking, and facilitation (at international, regional and national) level. I also participated in group projects in research, participatory monitoring and evaluation, governance and participation, and training for donors and bi- and multi-lateral agencies such as the DFID, SIDA, JICA, UNDP and the World Bank.
