Jamsheed Peeroo

Jamsheed is a barrister at the Bar of England and Wales (2002) as well as the Mauritian Bar (2006). He holds an LL.M degree from the University of London and a D.E.A. from the Ecole de Droit de la Sorbonne, University of Paris 1. He is a specialist of international arbitration and a doctoral candidate at the Sorbonne.
He is currently Rapporteur for the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Commission on Arbitration on the enforcement of foreign awards. He is also part of a Working Group drafting modern, user-friendly civil procedure rules as well as proposing further reforms to legislation in the field of international arbitration law for Mauritius.
He has worked on various arbitrations in the International Arbitration Group of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Paris. He assisted Jan Paulsson and Georgios Petrochilos in advising the UNCITRAL on the reform of its Arbitration Rules. He is also acquainted with the Rules of Arbitration of the ICC, LCIA and ICSID amongst others and with the arbitration laws of several countries.
Jamsheed obtained considerable experience in the field of international arbitration and international banking and finance in London at the leading commercial set 3 Verulam Buildings where he worked on numerous cases on varied areas, and in particular on a major copyright claim, in relation to a bank guarantee under a shipbuilding contract as well as on one of the largest financial fraud cases on the Alternative Investment Market."
As a Senior Lecturer at the Ecole de Droit de la Sorbonne, his mandate covered private international law for the Masters Degree in Business Law, French contract law, the general "droit civil" and the English laws of contract and unjust enrichment. Jamsheed was also a Junior Research Fellow of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law in 2004.
