Hema Vallabh
GirlEng Director, SAWomEng
Hema Vallabh holds an MSc Degree in Chemical Engineering and practices as a Process Engineer at Sasol, R&D. However, over and above her day job she is also the Director of GirlEng, a subdivision of the NPO SAWomEng, where she encourages young, high-potential girl learners to pursue a career in Engineering. All the work that Hema does with GirlEng is on a voluntary basis. She has received extremely positive feedback on the impact of her work and has been invited as a motivational speaker for events empowering young women and encouraging students to reach their goals. She was acknowledged by UCT, her alma mater, when she received a special faculty award for Outstanding Achievement from the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. She was also selected as a winner for the Sasol/O magazine Start a Change Reaction campaign. This was followed by her winning CEO magazine's Most Influential Woman of the Year award in the Engineering Sector.
