Own Haven Housing Association has adopted the following as its vision statement:
Providing Sought-After, Well Managed Rental Homes.
Mission Statement
To realise Own Haven’s vision, we have adopted the following mission statement:
Own Haven Housing Association is committed to being the leading provider of new and refurbished rental homes, primarily in the greater BuffaloCity area, through achieving:
Affordable good quality rental housing products located in a decent living environment
Viable locations for development with links to public facilities and economic opportunities
A rapport with tenants and attracting the right tenants
A growing, vibrant, efficient and viable company offering quality services
The recruitment of appropriately skilled staff
To achieve its mission, it is imperative that the institution develops into an organization with well skilled staff members and efficient systems and procedures to be able to provide a good quality management and maintenance service to its tenants.
Objectives
The core business of Own Haven Housing Association is to provide quality, affordable rental accommodation or social housing as a housing career to lower income families.
To achieve this, it is necessary that Own Haven has a diverse housing stock to retain tenants by facilitating upward migration as well as accommodating downward “rightsizing”, set in an environment that builds communities that residents want to be a part of while providing a level of service that will establish a competitive advantage.
Social housing is contextualised in terms of:-
value for money and level of affordability
creating communities and social pride
facilitating the provision of social services and support
adding value and contributing to the well-being of the tenants beyond their financial means and individual ability
addressing the housing needs of those who are unable to provide adequately for themselves by providing appropriate forms of accommodation
The concept of a housing career can only be achieved if it is ensured that products are designed and maintained to remain attractive while marketing and education is actively worked at to promote the concept of rental accommodation as a viable alternative to ownership.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of Own Haven are responsible for good governance and the oversight and monitoring of the housing association to ensure that it achieves its set objectives. Own Haven M.D. reports directly to the board and is responsible for the overall performance of the organisation. Own Haven has recently appointed a G.M. to deal with the day to day operations of the organisation. Board meetings are held on a quarterly basis.
