I believe that my experiences as an undergraduate at the University of Johannesburg are what have most prepared me to become a successful Political science student.
As I adjusted to life at the University of Johannesburg, I quickly became a leader within my fraternity. Shortly after initiation, I held one elected office, Director and Youth cordinator at South African Aids Support Organization (saaso), positions that allowed me to serve on the fraternity’s Executive Board. Holding offices within the fraternity helped me to develop as a leader and taught me how important it is to recognize both my strengths and weaknesses when working within a large group. Although I made the Dean’s List, I realized at the end of my first two years in college that I was not performing up to my true academic potential. Consequently, I returned to Boulder at the beginning of my junior year with a new, energetic focus toward my studies. This change in perspective was minor, however, in comparison with the impact of what happened next.

SAASO Achievements
Our major aim is to sensitize and mobilize our Communities about the plight of HIV/AIDS through our Awareness raising campaigns and workshops.
One of our major objectives being to educate, empower and inform especially young people who are both Infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS stigma, it is without doubt that SAASO has managed to carry out awareness raising campaigns especially among young adults in schools and colleges through the assistance of other networking partners.
Since our main audience are the young people who are greatly affected by the HIV/AIDS stigma, we have been having our on going campaign in schools and we have been able to reach over 100 Students between the ages of 16-20 years.
Other Activities
chairperson, 2008 - present
SAASO has significantly contributed to the reduction of stigma in South Africa. A strong collaborating and networking cluster of organizations that work together to accomplish the objectives of the organizations who hold the same vision have been able to mobilize a total number of 10 volunteers to work as peer educators to be able to educate other adolescents and young people about HIV/AIDS. Approximately 20 people have been so far supported in terms of feeding and clothing ,thanks to the generous support of our donors and partners who were willing to assist the victims in that regard.
