Denis Goldberg

Founder of Community H.E.A.R.T.


Born 11-04-1933

Denis Goldberg is a South African Social Campaigner and Founder pf Community H.E.A.R.T. He was active in the struggle against Apartheid. He was the Leader of the Congress of Democrats. During the State of Emergency he was detained for 4 months. In 1963, he received a banning order and was one of the defendents in the Rivonia Trial in 1964. Goldberg was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was released in 1985, after 22 years in prison and went into exile to London. He returned to South Africa in 2002.
