Arthur Goldreich was a South African-Israeli abstract painter and a key figure in the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. He moved to Israel in 1948, were he fought with the Palmach, the elite military wing of the Haganah, before returning to South Africa in 1954. He lived with his family as the tenant of Lillieslief farm in Rivonia, north of Johannesburg, where the underground leadership of the banned ANC met secretly. After the raid in which 17 ANC members, including Goldreich, were arrested, he broke out of a Johannesburg jail. After evading capture in a much publicised nationwide manhunt he fled to Swaziland disguised as a priest. Goldreich in died Israel at age 82. in 2011.
