Appointed as a Director of Optimus Investments in 2010 he is responsible for the business development of strategic investment opportunities with a specific focus on the Infrastructure, Energy and Industrial sectors. He is responsible for building a renewable energy portfolio consisting of projects in the biogas, solar and wind sectors.

Abbas is a registered professional engineer with 19 years experience and has been operating at a senior level within the local and international engineering consulting environment. In 2002 he led a successful MBO of Arcus Gibb from Jacobs(NYSE listed) to establish the company as one of the major engineering groups in Africa. He was also responsible for bringing Mvelepahanda as a major shareholder into Arcus Gibb, thereby setting the pace for transformation within the sector. As CEO of the company he was part of the project initiation team for the R26 billion Gautrain Rail project. He holds a BSc Engineering degree from the University of Cape Town as well as a Diploma in Business Management. He is also a certified Master Coach registered with the International Coaching Council(ICC).

Abbas has a passion for strategy and business development. Specialising in sourcing and packaging projects in the renewable energy sector. Portfolio includes investment into IPP, manufacturing and financing new technology for the international market.
